Handsearching Course (online)
This short web-based course will train you to play one of the most important roles in the international effort of the Cochrane Collaboration. Handsearching, the process of manually screening peer-reviewed biomedical journals, conference proceedings and other publications for the best-available evidence is an integral process in identifying results of research that can be used in Cochrane reviews. This training module will prepare handsearchers to identify randomized controlled and controlled clinical trials that match the rigorous standards that doctors, researchers, health care consumers, and others have come to expect from the Cochrane Collaboration.

This workshop guides participants through the steps of developing a systematic review. Designed for individuals who have published a protocol in The Cochrane Library or who have a protocol approved for publication by a Cochrane Review Group, the workshop is also open to those interested in learning more about performing systematic reviews, space permitting. The workshop includes presentations about Cochrane methodology (identification of best evidence, quality assessment, synthesis and analysis) and hands-on practice using the Cochrane Collaboration’s Review Manager (RevMan) software.

This workshop focuses on finding, appraising, and applying the best research evidence to clinical practice. Topics covered include formulating a focused clinical question, finding the best sources of evidence, and evaluating the evidence. The workshop includes a mix of didactic and small group sessions. Small groups provide experience with using a specific patient case as a basis for evaluating research evidence for clinical care.
